Dr. Matthew Tansey, LCMHC

When I finished my Master’s degree and began my working career as a therapist, I initially felt lost. I had put years into my training and was entering a job market with little direction. All of the options I saw seemed to have significant drawbacks. If I had known how simple it is to start a private practice, I certainly would have. It took me some years to find this path but when I did, I wished I had found it sooner. It allows me to be my own boss, make my own schedule, and work with the clients with whom I am most interested in working. That’s why I started Honest Psychotherapy. I want to give other therapists that opportunity.

But who am I? I am a licensed mental health counselor in Vermont, Colorado and Connecticut and I have been practicing since 2014. I hold a Ph.D. in Counseling from the University of Rochester. I also received my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Vermont in 2014. I have extensive experience working with both individuals and couples and I previously worked in the substance abuse field.

I have received extensive training in the Constructive Clinical Supervision model from the founder, Dr. Doug Guiffrida. I help clinicians develop their approach and identify pathways to grow as providers. I can offer clinical supervision services to licensed mental health practitioners seeking continued growth as professionals. Additionally, for pre-licensed providers I can provide supervised billing services and guidance on developing your practice.
